Dana you are absolutely killing it this year. You are nominated for: Performer of the Year, Best All-Girl Group Sex Scene – Squirt Gangbang 4, Most Outrageous Sex Scene – Squirt Gangbang 4, Best Gonzo Release – Bobbi Starr & Dana DeArmond’s Insatiable Voyage and Best Threeway Sex Scene – Semen Sippers 7 at the 2010 AVN Awards this year. How does it feel to be on top?

This has been quite a year for me, it’s all a bit overwhelming. On top of the 2010 AVN nominations, I will also be presenting at the AVN awards. I have to say I am very honored. I’ve been working tirelessly, not just this year, but for the last six years and it’s really a great feeling to be recognized by the industry’s top publications, directors, producers and my peers. I’ve also been lucky enough to shoot overseas twice this year; with Gazzman/Harmony in London and Evil Angel directors Christoph Clark and Rocco Siffredi in Budapest! During the last euro trip I presented at the Hot D’or awards in Paris. This year has opened so many opportunities for me and I feel truly blessed.

Is there anything from your experience as a figure skater that has helped you in the Adult Industry?

I think growing up with stage parents gave me a drive to be a great performer. I have always been an entertainer, it must be in my blood. Figure skating took a lot of hard work and discipline and made me very aware of my body and posture. It groomed me to be a lady and an athlete. My training carried over to my work as a performer at Disney and Universal and eventually to the stages of gentleman’s clubs. I just have a passion for performing and I am very fortunate to have been able to do what I love all my life.

You spent time as a street dancer in Disney World. What’s your favorite memory from your time under the Mouse?

I worked at the magic kingdom for 3 years, as an impressionable teen I was exposed to the best and worst of the entertainment industry. It taught me a lot about people and humanity. Nothing else gave me more joy than to see the smiles on the faces of the terminally ill children who were guests of the park through “Give Kids The World.” There is nothing more powerful than to be part of fulfilling the dreams of a dying child.

Your house and belongings were destroyed in a fire in January 2007, and the adult industry put together some fundraising to help you out. Has the response helped you restore everything? Is there still a place where people can donate?

I am happy to say that i have fully recovered from the fire with donations and support mostly from within the industry. Fleshbot.com ran a huge campaign to raise funds and collect donations after that devastating event. I had a lot of other supporters from the adultdvdtalk.com message board and also my wonderful fans on myspace.com. It was a very hard time in my life and career and I don’t think I would have bounced back if it wasn’t for the love and support of my fans.

You are known for being unapologetically straight edge. What was it that brought you to the need for sobriety?

It’s always hard to live your lifestyle a certain way without people making controversy out of it. I don’t want to highlight my personal politics too much and focus mainly on my career and body of work, continuing to press forward and grow my personal brand even bigger and stronger. I hope people will accept be me unconditionally no matter what, even when my life choices and goals change. I want people to, above all else know that I am a lady who has her head on straight and am very impassioned about my work and my life.

You have guest lectured on the adult industry for classes at University of California, Irvine and University of California, Santa Barbara. What is the most important message you try to communicate to the students about the business?

It’s been a while since I’ve spoke publicly at the schools. It’s hard to remember everything we covered. People seemed to ask a lot about my motivations and personal life, especially with romance and relationships. I think one of the main messages I tried to always put across was that porn stars are people working in a legitimate business and completely capable of normal human interaction on and off screen. I made a number of friends from the visits to UC Irvine and UCSB. I would really love to go to other schools and speak in porn or sociology classes. I would also love to speak on social networking, since it is what launched me out of obscurity and has essentially made me a semi-household name.

You’ve directed two documentary porn movies in which you help young people break into the adult business, called Dana DeArmond Does the Internet and Dana DeArmond’s Role Modeling. Has your experience directing helped your performance at all, and how?

My stance on performing is “practice makes perfect” and the things that have helped me improve is continually delivering one amazingly hot performance after another. In making “Dana DeArmond Does the Internet” and the follow up “Dana DeArmond’s Role Modeling” taught me so many different things, mostly about the film making process and being a good role model. The role modeling movie showcases many different types of people from different walks of life with a common interest and follows their path into their first exposure to adult film making. If you watch the movie you can see the reactions of the performers and the people in their lives who influence them, it’s a case study in the motivation behind what drives one to want to become a sex worker, and in the end some realize it’s just “not for them.” Making this movie was a great life experience and taught me a great deal about how to communicate with these young people, counsel them and hopefully give them some tools they will take throughout their lives whether they end up pursuing a career in pornography or not. I am very happy to report one of the cast members, Andy San Dimas, has been a great success story. She moved to Los Angeles and is performing full time in adult.

Which was your favorite DVD to make and why?

“Dana DeArmond Does the Internet” was my all time favorite movie to make. My crew and I did a road trip to San Francisco for the filming and I got to work with my closest friends. It was a bonding experience and we turned out a very cute movie which also happened to be a hot porno. It was my first, so it will always have a special place in my heart.

Who is your favorite on-screen partner and why?

Wow, this is an incredibly hard question to answer. I am very lucky to have appeared with truly amazing performers, it would be extremely difficult to narrow it down to just one. Sean Michaels is consistently amazing and such a gentleman, not to mention devilishly handsome. He is a legend in adult and I simply adore him as a person.

You say that you weren’t raised to think sexual expression was a taboo. What are your parents’ opinions of sex and the Adult Industry?

I don’t know what my parents’ opinions of the adult industry are exactly, but they probably have a better understanding of it than most people because their daughter is a porn star. They are wonderful human beings and have always been very supportive of my decisions as an adult. They have always had a policy of treating people with respect when they act like an adult and command that respect, this includes their own children. I respect my parents more than anything because of that quality.

In the first scene of Squirt Gangbang Vol. 4, you and your partner are having some hot girl on girl quality time. My absolute favorite part of that scene is where you slap her from the bottom and she slaps you right back, revealing a sinful smile on your face. Is your fondness for some rough play a reality or just an on-screen image?

Sometimes, when I am filming, the energy is very high and everyone in the room feeds off each other’s energy. It can be quite intense. I just go with whatever vibe is in the room and sometimes it gets a little rough. I am very open to experimentation and helping others enjoy their interaction with me, so if they want to play rough i am more than happy to play any number of roles to fulfill what my partner wants or needs.

What is your biggest off-screen turn on?

I can’t put my finger on one person, place, thing, sex act, etc… that is my main turn on… Different situations arise and something will jump out at me as HOT. For instance, if I’m seeing someone and they are into age-play that is something I can totally feed off of and I can act like the little girl and dress young and even be submissive (doing chores, doing what daddy tells me to). Then in other instances it might be a purely physical attraction that brings the heat to the relationship. I am very fortunate that the last 6 years of performing in the adult business and broadened my sexual palate, allowing me to be very flexible in most any situation.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to your guy fans for how to handle themselves between the sheets, what would it be?

Communication is key. Talk to your partner and figure out each other’s wants, needs and desires. Set healthy boundaries and explore not only your bodies but each other’s minds… it makes for better sex all around.

How would you advise your female fans to better enjoy their sex lives?

Pretty much the same advice. Ladies love sex just as much as men if not more so! I would also urge women to love themselves and accept their bodies, women of all shapes sizes and colors are SEXY and they need to realize that and OWN IT.

Is there anything you are completely against sexually?

The things I become interested in sexually wax and wane. I don’t know what I will be into tonight or tomorrow, but I wouldn’t want to judge any sex act as something “unacceptable.” People are in to all sorts of different stuff. I am pretty fucking open sexually and wouldn’t want to say, “what I do is ok, what you’re into is weird.” So, if it’s legal and makes you happy, GAME ON. People need to be educated, safe and consensual whenever they are engaging in sexual activity, as long as nobody gets hurt, it’s ok by me.

Who is your favorite musical artist at the moment?

Oh boy. El Bronx Mariachi is blowing my mind. I have a long list of all time favorites. If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would you go and why?

I am extremely attached to Los Angeles, I fell in love when I moved here in 2001. At the moment I couldn’t even wrap my brain around living elsewhere. I also love San Francisco, I wish it was a tad warmer though.

Is there anything we should be looking for from you in the near future? Anything you would like to promote?

I just signed on with the Lee Network and have a feature dancer tour in the works coming up in 2010.
